Alex has spent over 30 years in the business of Aviation. His career started in the 90s with American Airlines where he worked on improving processes within airport operations, hub control as well as network and capacity planning. His last leadership position was as Chairman and CEO of British Airways. Currently he continues as board member at Recaro and several tech companies. He also teaches at IESE Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.
As leader of the creation and start-up of Clickair which (eventually merged with Vueling), he shaped Europe’s fastest-growing airline as well as one of the most successful low-cost carriers in the region. As the Chairman and CEO of Vueling Airlines, he was responsible for delivering financial results, managing all the strategic functions and representing the company in financial markets.
From April 2016, he led British Airways as its Chairman and CEO. In charge of a 42,000 strong team, large international destination network and an acclaimed brand, BA achieved its most profitable years in its history during his tenure whilst securing a £5.5B investment in new products and services. Awarded with: Airline Business Strategy Award, Regional Airline of the Year, Value Airline of the Year, CEO of the Year.
