Iain MacDougall
Head of Sustainability,
Red Engineering Design Ltd
I am a Chartered Building Services Engineer (CIBSE) with extensive experience in sustainability and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) design for data centres, hospitality, commercial offices, and other projects. My work aims to mobilise engineering to achieve efficient and sustainable outcomes. I lead the sustainability team at RED Engineering, where we deliver sustainable solutions and engineering designs for projects worldwide.
Our work is divided into three main areas: Building Certification, Energy & Carbon, and Sustainability.
• Building Certification: We handle certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, Nabers, and UK NZ BS.
• Energy & Carbon: Our services include PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness), WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness), CUE (Carbon Usage Effectiveness), ASHRAE 90.4/90.2 compliance, IES modelling, embodied carbon assessments, energy auditing (ESOS, EEDs, EN 50600, SECR, etc.), EPCs, and Part L compliance.
• Sustainability: We oversee all RED’s global environmental sustainability, policies and strategies, including GHG (Greenhouse Gas) accounting and reporting.
In the past year, I have had the great fortune of contributing to the generation of the UK NZ Building Standard (Data Centre Sector). Recently, I was invited to co-chair the ASHRAE UK Data Centre Special Interest Group and served as a judge for the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2025.
